Wednesday Things

1. We have killed four mice in our kitchen in the last week, and this morning Emma and I saw another one under our kitchen sink. I have no idea what is going on or why they are trying to take over our house. But I do know one thing - any and all mice that enter my kitchen WILL DIE. (That goes especially for you, little fat mouse that we saw this morning! I could tolerate reptiles and rats in my kitchen in the Philippines but I will NOT tolerate hoards of mice in my kitchen in Norway!)

2. Markus is in Spain for a week of meetings. He left early Monday morning and I miss him terribly. It feels really weird to be without him while in his country. That probably doesn't make sense to anyone, but I always feel that way when he's gone.

3. The weather is being weird. After a cold summer, it seems that we might be having a mild winter. (In fact, some of the trees that lost all their leaves this fall are starting to bloom again!) But I am not complaining! As I was dragging the garbage can down the hill this morning, I was sooooo thankful that it is not icy and snowy right now. Snow may be pretty, but it makes everything so much more complicated.

4. Yesterday night was Levi's school's winter/Christmas/end-of-the-first-term program. (I have no idea what to call it...it had nothing to do with Christmas or winter, and there are still several weeks of school left before the end of the first term.) Emma and I went in the morning and got front-row seats to watch him in his group dance number (he did great!), and I went back in the evening for the encore performance to help sell tickets. The gym was so packed that I wasn't even able to squeeze through the door to get in, but I got to spend the hour in the foyer holding the beautiful baby of a friend while catching up with her. I couldn't have imagined a better way to spend my evening. :-)

Emma, while waiting for the program to start.

5. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration on Saturday night! 18 family and friends came over, and everyone brought food and drinks to add to the feast. We had turkey, Norwegian Christmas ribs, mashed and boiled potatoes, stuffing, corn bread, macaroni and cheese, and lots of yummy vegetables. For dessert we had pumpkin, blueberry, and apple pies, pumpkin cakeballs, chocolate mousse, Norwegian Christmas cookies, and a big bowl of candy that uncle Helge brought. As delicious and wonderful as the food was, by far the best part of the night was being together and reflecting on the many things that we are thankful to our Heavenly Father for.

6. One last thing - if you look at the picture right above this, you will notice something in the background. Our new couch has arrived! (Yes it is purple and yes it is a chaise, and yes we love it!) Originally in the furniture package deal that we bought (dining room table + chairs + coffee table + china hutch + couch), we were supposed to get a black couch in its place. But we negotiated with the furniture store to swap the black couch out for a different couch (since we already have black 3 + 2 seat couches), and this chaise is what we decided on! We're still waiting for the china hutch and dining room table/chairs to arrive...it's both exciting and a little scary to buy our own furniture with the realization that this time we may be settling down for longer than a year or two...

Happy Wednesday to each of you, and a Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all our American friends and family!

Fun to catch up, but I demand (!) or maybe not, but I request - a better view of the new piece of furniture, it looks soooo cool! ;)

(And yes, I think I can relate to feeling strange being in your husbands's place without him there.... I know the feeling, but another COUNTRY is maybe even more weird)

Perhaps the mice came to your house because they knew there would be a Thanksgiving dinner!!!!!!

I'm with you about winter. It's fun to look at for maybe a week then I'm just sick of it. And I know how you feel about being without your husband. Mine can be out of state and I miss him. I can't imagine him being out of the country! Hope you and your family enjoyed your Thanksgiving. :)
